Ty’s team played in a post season tournament game at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.  It was really cool as they had the teams run out of the tunnel at the start of the game.  It was a hard fought defensive game.  Tooele stopped Lehi on their first posession and the offense then drove down the field to take a 7 – 0 lead.  Lehi came back and scored on the next posession convering 2 fourth downs in the process.  They failed on the extra point and it was 7 – 6 at the half.  Tooele scored on their first second half posession as did Lehi.  Lehi’s two point conversion failed and Tooele hung on thry the fourth quarter for the 14 – 12 win.  Ty played well as was in on 4 tackles.  He really thought it was cool playing at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Austin’s team just couldn’t stop Skyline’s passing game.  Austin did a good job covering his WR – good enough that the Skyline QB never even threw to his WR.  Unfortunately other WR were always open.  Austin did a great job covering a punt – he took on the blocker and forced the return man to cut back and then broke free of his blocker and made the tackle.

Ty’s team suffered a disappointment as it dropped it first game in a month.  Ty was sick all week, but still played well from his DE spot.  He had one solo tackle and several assists.  Quite a few of his teammates were sick at some point during the week.  Tooele came out and scored first, but then just couldn’t round the corner.  Skyline scored on a 4 and 20 reverse play and also recovered an onside kick after they went up 13 – 6.  Ty’s team will have a chance to avenge their loss as they will almost certainly play Skyline in the first round of the playoffs.  Right now the standings go Kearns, Skyline, Tooele, Granger although that could change as Kearns and Skyline play as do Tooele and Granger.  Then the playoffs start.

Cottonwood ran a very effective spread shotgun and thier QB was very accurate as Tooele Bantams lost another game.  The most memorable play from this game was Austin’s textbook pass breakup on his first defensive play.  He played off the WR who ran a inside slant.  Once the QB let go of the ball Austin closed the gap and hit the WR just as the ball arrived.  I really wish we had a video.  Austin broke so well on the ball that I though he was going to pick it off.  Unfortunately the QB never made another throw to Austin’s area.  I am very proud of how much Austin has improved this season.

Ty played another good game at OLB (or maybe it should be called DE).  He had two tackles and did a rally good job at causing pileups outside and forcing the RB back inside.  Tooele rolled in this game as Justice added two punt returns for TD to his three rushing TDs.  With this win Ty’s teams clinches a playoff spot.  Ty and his team were very exceited to ba able to play in Cottonwoods HS stadium on field turf for this game.

Austin’s team struggled to move the ball in another loss.  Austin played WR and CB.  He had a pass called to him, but unfortunately the QB got sacked.  Autin is doing a good job staying positive thru this tough season.

This game was much closer than anyone expected because Tooele was without its starting QB Braden.  This meant that Justice who normally plays RB took all the snaps.  Coach Mike pretty much made up the plays on the spot.  Ty and his teammates on defense played very well giving up only one TD on a fourth down pass.  The defense was without 2 starters, Braden and Wyatt.  Ty had two solo tackles for losses and was in on five more tackles, easily playing his best game this year.  On offense it was pretty much Justice right, Justice left, although he did throw two beautiful passes to Thomas for a first and goal and an extra point.

Chaz got to play a game on artificial turf at WoodsCross.  The stuff they have now is a million times better than what they had 25 years ago when I played one game at UT Arlington.  That stuff was awful.  Unfortunately Chaz’s team couldn’t get anyting consistent going against WoodsCross.  Chaz some some good playing time at DE.  He was in on at least one tackle and also blocked well on kickoff returns.

Austin’s team came into the game hoping to pick up their first win.  The first quarter was scoreless and Austin had a TD saving solo tackle on the South Summit RB in the second quarter.  Unfortunately South Summit scored two second quarter TDs and led 14 – 0 at the half.  The Tooele offense couldn’t punch it in going 0 – 3 on purple zone chances.  South Summit scored a TD on the final play of the game.  Austin was in a CB and the LB started covering the TE but then left him and blitzed.  Austin saw the LB leave his man and got back to make the tackle right at the goal line, but two other Tooele players hit the South Summit TE from behind and tackled him into the endzone.  It was a disappointing game for Austin and his team.  They need to regroup and start blocking better.
