Kayli and Ty’s Tooele White Gremlins made it the the playoffs with a 6-3 record. Tooele was the 4th seed and played 1st seed Bingham Silver at 9:00 AM. Bingham scored on its first two possessions to take a 13 - 0 lead. They then connected on a beautiful pass and went up 19 - 0 near the end of the first half. Tooele played much better in the second half, but couldn’t find the endzone. The final score was 19 - 0 as the Tooele D pitched a shutout in the second half. Kayli and Ty and the rest of the team were very dissapointed but considering that at one point Tooele was 1-3, getting to the playoffs was a big accomplishment. Ty had fun playing DL and knocked his guy down twice. Kayli became the first girl to start on a playoff team for Tooele. Hopefully we can meet Bingham next year in the playoffs.

We had a perfect football weekend with Kayli and Ty, Chaz, and BYU all winning on Saturday. The funny part is that BYU’s win over UNLV was by far the closest game.
Kayli and Ty had a 9:00 AM game at Riverton Gold, who played much better than their record indicated. Riverton Gold ties the game at 7 -7 in the second quarter before Ty, Kayli and the kickoff return team set up a perfect TD return on the ensuing kickoff. After that Tooele took over the game and won 28 - 7. Ty played offense, defense, kickoff, and kickoff return. Kayli started offense and kickoff return.
Chaz had a 12:00 noon game at Judge. Tooele got the opening kickoff and drove easily down the field, picking up huge chunks of yardage on the ground, until they threw an interception at the 5 yard line. Judge took over, but couldn’t move the ball and tried to punt on 4th down. The punt was blocked and recovered for a TD to put Tooele up 7 - 0. Several good offensive drives, a pitch returned for a TD, and a pick 6 later Tooele was up 46 - 0. We were all actually glad to see Judge get a TD in the closing minutes to make the final 46 - 8.

Kayli and Ty played Hillcrest Black at Midvalley Middle School. Tooele won the toss and got the opening kickoff. The blocking was excellent and Tooele moved down the field to go up 7 - 0. Hillcrest Black moved the ball inside the 10 before the Tooele D stiffened and stopped the drive on downs. Tooele drove down the field and scored again to begin the 2nd quarter. Tooele got the ball back with a fumble recovery and drove in for the TD making it 21 - 0. Then the defense scored 2 TDs before halftime - on a fumble recovery and an interception. Kayli and the OL did great, opening up holes all game long. Ty played LT for the final 2 TDs, which was really cool because he was lined up next to his sister. Ty also played for defensive series and almost got a fumble recovery. The final score was 48 - 0.
Chaz played Hillcrest at the same location with his game starting about 20 minutes after Kayli and Ty’s ended. The Hillcrest Bantams had a huge line with 4 players over the 240 pounds. Chaz and the OL had their work cut out for them, but did fairly well. Chaz’s cut blocks and pass blocking were particularly effective. Unfortunately the Hillcrest D managed to keep Tooele out of the endzone and they lost 35 - 0.

We woke up Saturday to rain and snow in Tooele, but as we drove in to Salt Lake to play Alta the weather we got ahead of the storm front and actually got a little sun. It was cold and windy at when we got there. Kayli and Ty’s game started in a light rain, which really seems to cause some problem for Alta’s offense. Tooele got out to a 6 - 0 lead in the first quarter on a long sweep by Justice, but then the rain stopped and Alta’s offense started doing better. They scored twice in the second quarter and led 14 - 6 at the half. Kayli and the offensive line played excellent the whole game, opening up big holes and keeping the DL out of the backfield for the entire game. Tooele got the ball to start the second half and we called a pass on the first play. The protection was perfect as Kayli and the OL kept everyone on the LOS. The throw and catch were also perfect and Davis scored on a 50 yard TD pass from Justice. Ty was in as usual for the kickoff and they executed a great onside kick and got the ball back. Tooele drove down the field and scored again making the score 18 - 14. Alta put together another long drive and took the lead 21 - 19 about half way through the 4th quarter. Tooele got the ball back and again the blocking was excellent. Tooele scored another TD going up 26 -21 with 2 minutes left. The defense held and Tooele got the win. They are now 4 - 3 on the season and it appears they will make the playoffs.
Chaz’s game was a showdown against Grantsville at Deseret Peak. Chaz’s team look great on the opening drive, and Chaz and the OL were opening up gaping holes against the Grantsville D. Unfortunately the Tooele D gave 20 unanswered points before Tooele could get back on the scoreboard and make it 20 -14. granstville ran out the clock and got the close win. On two of Granstville’s TDs there were multiple blocks in the back, which caused quite a rucus with the Tooele fans and got Tooele’s D Coordinator ejected. On the last TD the refs even made the call, but called it a dead ball foul (block in the back). And so the TD stood. It was a good game, but a tough one to lose.

It started raining Friday night and kept raining and drizzling all day Saturday.
Kayli and Ty played Highland Black at 10:30 in Bountiful. It was a defensive struggle as both teams offenses slogged through the mud. Highland had a 70 yard TD called back on a holding penalty (they play on an 80 yard field). And the score stayed 0 - 0 until the the final minutes of the 4th quarter when the Tooele D held Highland and forced a punt. The punt one hopped into Justice Salisbury hands and he took it down the far sideline 50 yards for the score. The extra point failed and the D had to make a final stand. They held Highland and got the ball back with a turnover on downs. Three QB kneel plays later the game was over and Tooele had hung on for the 6 - 0 victory. Ty was on the field blocking on the TD return. He also played on the DL and did very well bear crawling into he backfield. Ty also got in on offense for the victory formation and on all special teams plays. Kayli blocked very well on the OL and managed to open up some nice holes, but the offense couldn’t sustain a scoring drive in the slippery, wet conditions.
Chaz’s game was at the same location against Bountiful at 1:30. Luckily we brought our First-Up shelter and Cari and most of the kids were able to keep fairly dry. Yavin refused to stay under the shelter and really enjoyed playing in the rain and mud.
Chaz’s game got off to an ominous start with Tooele fumbling the ball after a nice gain on the first play from scrimmage. The D held and got th ball back and then the Tooele offense got on track. They methodically drove down the field for the score and their fist lead of the season. Chaz and the OL did a great job opening up holes, especially up the middle. Tooele got two more scores in the first half, one on a TD pass and one on a FB dive to Chaz’s friend Jackson Nichols. The second half saw hard rain, but Tooele added another TD and kept Bountiful out of the endzone until late in the 4th quarter. Chaz was in blocking for 3 or the four TDs and did a good job manhandling his guy and opening up holes. The final score was 26 - 6 and the whole team errupted into cheers as they finally won a game.

Austin’s team followed their last win with a huge blowout, winning 15-0 or so. We actually lost count of the score, but it was a completely dominating win. Austin played defender and forward, and came close to getting some shots on goal. Luckily his game was played at 6:00 PM so we could make it back from Park City.

Kayli and Ty’s team got back on track with a 27-13 win over Bountiful. Ty played on kickoff and kickoff return as well as on the defensive line. He also go in for a few plays at tight end. He did a good job on the DL even though he was going against an OL who probably was double his weight. Kayli started at LG, as she alsways does, and she ans the rest of the OL did a great job of opening up holes for the running backs. She also got to play quite a few plays on defense, and helped stop Bountiful on one drive when thay had a 1st and 10 inside the 20 yard line. She really enjoyed getting in on defense.
Chaz’s team played very well in the first quarter and missed some scoring opportunities in the first half. The score was 18-0 at the half, but unfortunately Park City score 3 4th quarter TDs and won 39-0. Chaz got to play some DL for the first time this season.
